Product Description Halo 3 is the third game in the Halo Trilogy and the thrilling conclusion to the events begun in Halo: Combat Evolved. Master Chief returns to finish the fight, bringing the epic conflict between the Covenant, the Flood, and the entire human race to a dramatic, pulse-pounding climax. The Covenant occupation of Earth has uncovered a massive and ancient object beneath the African sands - an object whose secrets have yet to be revealed. Earth's forces are battered and beaten. The Master Chief's AI companion Cortana is still trapped in the clutches of the Gravemind - a horrifying Flood intelligence, and a civil war is raging in the heart of the Covenant. It's all been building to this -- a desperate, final war that leads to a soul-shattering climax of epic proportions. Take control of Master Chief to defeat the Covenant and destroy the Flood to prevent the annihilation of the human race.

Earth is conquered. The Covenant is everywhere. Halo 3 promises to be an epic journey. View larger. | Game developer Bungie announced that Halo 3 will be released for Microsoft's Xbox 360 sometime in 2007. The game was revealed to the world at the Microsoft press conference held at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA in May 2006. To gamer's delight, the announcement was a complete surprise. The rumors have been abound for the past year, as everyone wondered when the next installment would be ready. Bungie and Microsoft did a stellar job keeping their lips sealed, and fans benefited from their first glimpse of the hallowed third and final installment. The short presentation was delivered in real-time on the Xbox 360 using the current version of the Halo 3 game engine. That's right, no studio production video, Bungie and Microsoft delivered the real deal: what they showed at the announcement is what gamers will see when they play Halo 3 in 2007. The HDR lighting, self-shadowing, GPU-run particle system and many other effects are rumored to show up in full effect in the final game. Needless to say, the gaming community is salivating. CJ Cowan, Bungie's director of cinematics discussed one of the most startling moments of the presentation: the return of Cortana. "Given the variety of character and story arcs at the end of Halo 2, we wanted to boil down our announcement to a few key threads. Cortana and the Chief being a galaxy apart is a situation we haven't seen before, and is something that is a powerful component to Halo 3. We are using her transmissions in the demo to give the viewer a few subtle clues to her situation and state of mind, without revealing any specifics we want to save for the game itself." Graphically, the game closely follows in the tradition of Halo 2, although it has been upgraded to take advantage of the Xbox 360's more prodigious visual abilities. As art direct Marcus Lehto explained, "[The presentation] was intended to be an understated announcement of Halo 3 -- the tone is that of mystery and suspense -- the calm before the storm. I wanted to make sure that we reintroduced the Chief, showed that Earth was thoroughly conquered, with Covenant everywhere, and that there is a glorious, ancient artifact buried under the Earth's crust which will provide Halo 3 with the epic journey which we all want." Taking full advantage of the power of Xbox 360, Halo 3 expands on everything that has made the franchise great, adding a wealth of technical and gameplay advancements. The game design has evolved with next-generation, high-definition visuals, enhanced A.I., an advanced real-time lighting engine, and, of course, new weapons, characters, and challenges. Halo 3 promises an unparalleled first-person shooter experience and, in the end, the most compelling and engrossing story in the franchise's history. Last, but certainly not least, Halo 3 builds upon the unique social multiplayer experience and innovative, evolving online gameplay of Halo 2. Rest assured, you'll still be able to run with your clan and battle with (or against) your buddies from coast to coast.

Awesome Game September 8, 2008 I am a Halo fan and i thought Halo 2 could not be beaten. I was right, in some ways. First off, Halo 3 has a good story mode, but not as good as Halo 2. Halo 3 does however have a better multiplayer. For example Halo 3 has more maps and they are more fun. Also Halo 3 has forge. Forge is heck of fun because you can customize your own maps. You have never been able to do that on any previous Halo games. This game is a lot of money, but it is worth every cent.
Multiplayer- 5 stars
Story Mode- 4 stars
Fun- 5 stars
Overall- Unbeatable
Cleans up Halo 2's mistakes September 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I loved Halo 2's co-op features, but I thought that the missions were terrible! The missions where you were elites were just agony! But Halo 3 is such a large step up in TONS of way, such as,the co-op maps are a lot more fun, complex, and just plain better than Halo 2,the missions are so much better I can't name all of the improvements, but I will anyway. My favorite thing about co-op missions is to ride in a vehicle,my brother drives, while I operate the turret and wipe out all enemies in our path.I beat the game on all levels of difficulty and still haven't gotten tired of the game,I play it every time I go down to my neighbors house(which is quite often)and we enjoy every minute of it,whether it be shotguns, energy swords,or rocket launcher(all of which are my favorites)it's always a blast.Halo 3 is my favorite Xbox 360 game and I can't wait till Halo Wars comes out(I love RPG's)(role playing games).
not that fun August 31, 2008 maybe its just me, but i found halo 3 to be a little cheesey and weird. keep in mind that i have not played the other 2. alot of the weapons were lame and half the time, i couldnt see where i was in the game. much of it is darkly lit or hard to see. overall, there are better shoot-'em-up games out there.
HALO 3 August 31, 2008 I hear a lot of people saying call of duty 4 is better than halo 3, halo 3 is better than call of duty 4, etc, etc. They are both excellent games, and compliment each other. After playing the realism of cod4 it's nice to switch back to the low gravity, energy shield world of halo3. I also think the online play of halo3 is just that much more fun because you end up playing with more random people, who seem to talk more.
I don't understand the hype August 29, 2008 Ok i didn't have the first xbox so when I got my 360 I went out and bought halo 1&2 because i knew 3 was coming soon. I just got bored with 1 and 2 still i gave this game benefit of the doubt and rent it and beat it, mind you I own 1&2 own still haven't beat them and it not because this game is fun but because it's really short. now the best thing about this game is the online play HANDS DOWN. But after 200 rounds of death match it can get old. the story not that epic as if it was touch by the hands of the maker, so why the hype.the vehicles in all this games handle so horribliy this is how i'd imagine a cat on roller skates would handle like. and the two weapons at a time i can't stand it's a video games it suppose to be unrealalistic and be sides that your shootings aliens for pete's sake. And yes i've actually people make the agruement "the 2 weapons thing is the games way of being realalistic, you couldn't carry 6 or 7 weapon could you?" if i've offended sorry but i'd rather be playing gears of war.
