5 out of 5 stars Not Perfect But Definately A Favorite!   November 26, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Hasbro's family game night is a fun twist on well loved board games and you don't have any pieces to lose!

Our favorite games were definately Battleship and Boggle and with an age range between 9 - 53 years in our household it was enjoyed by everyone. My husband and youngest daughter loved battleship and found the variations to the regular game a lot more fun.

The controls are easy to use for children and not complicated in any way. Boggle can get a little confusing when you have 4 people all trying to highlight letters but I think that added to the fun of it all.

Connect Four was a little boring, but it's not really a game I like to play much off the wii.

We couldn't figure out Sorry, but we were having so much fun with Boggle and Battleship we didn't really care and I'm sure if we bothered to read the booklet that came with the game we'd figure it out quickly enough.

Overall I'd give the game a 9 out of 10 simply for Battleship and Boggle.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Translation of Hasbro Standards!   November 25, 2008

It's an expected hazard of having children and wanting to play classic games. We have several game boxes in our closet that are unplayable because of missing pieces, not to mention the precious closet space they inhabit. That's never a problem with "Hasbro Family Game Night". You'll never lose the game pieces and the Wii interface is extremely simple for all members of the family.

Nothing fancy here, just the standards like Boggle, Battleship, Yahtze, Connect Four, and Sorry! It's a good mix of games with a variety of skill sets for the entire family.

The games play like the standard non-electronic games, but also incorporate a number of interesting variations of the standard games.

We also enjoy having Mr Potato Head serving as the Master-of-Ceremonies, though we wish he spoke more. He does not say much, but DOES celebrate or shake his head sadly depending on your performance.

The graphics are not remarkable, but are crisp, clean, and well-rendered. The user-interface is well-designed, with a few flaws here and there where you may trip over your fingers. This game does NOT represent an innovative use of the Wii controller, though it IS a nice touch to shake the Wii-mote to shake the dice cup. Overall, no major complaints and we are enjoying the game. Probably should be listed at a lower price than $36, but cheaper than buying each of the individual games. This game makes a good edition to your Wii library as a game that doesn't take videogame playing skill. If you can play, the physical versions of these games, you will have no problem with the electronic edition.

As with the original versions, these are more fun when played in a group, but they also work well in one-player mode. Highly Recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Fun!   November 24, 2008
We got this game about a week ago and we love it! Yahtzee is my favorite. The kids play Sorry! Sliders for hours. Its worth buying.

4 out of 5 stars nice wii port of classic game   November 22, 2008
My kids are 4 and 6, and I find little game pieces in every crevice of our home. We love games.

The kids have played some of the games in HFGN: Sorry, Sorry Sliders, and Connect 4. The port of Sorry is a little easier to play than the original (they deal out 5 cards, and you can choose to play one of them), and that works better than the original for my kids. However, we play on a 25" TV, and the blocks are a little small on our screen. Sorry Sliders is probably the most fun: it really works on the Wii nicely. The other games are good, but the controls are a little clunky. It would have been nice if they included a round-robin tournament for 2-player games like Battleship and Connect 4, not unlike the way they do Table Tennis in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.

The game also awards trophies and prizes to each player, a lot like Mario Party 8. The kids really like that.

Overall, we like it. It has room for improvement, but it's fun for us

5 out of 5 stars Fun game for the family!   November 19, 2008

This game is alot of fun. I'm a mom of 5 girls ages 12-8 and they all enjoy playing this. Boggle is a great game for kids to play, challenging and fun while learning! Battleship is also alot of fun. Graphics could be a tad better instead of having Mr Potato head around all the time they could have did something else but all in all this is a great game with many options. No exercise involved though : )
