Product Description Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PS3
Amazon.com Product Description Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, is a next-gen experience complete with top-of-the-line graphics and surround sound designed for the Sony PlayStation 3. Featuring the most revealing display of Kojima Production's premier title, MSG4 details the world where Snake must under go his final mission. In a world overrun by private military companies (PMCs), wars are no longer fought over nations or ideologies. Instead, the wars of the future are micro-managed by overarching PMCs, right down to the bullet. New gadgets and abilities fuel Snake's journey deep into the enemy domains of the Middle East, South America, and beyond. New gear includes "Metal Gear Mk. II," the ultimate reconnaissance tool, and "Solid Eye," which gives Snake real-time information on enemies and his surroundings.

PMCs have run amok and the world is at war. View larger. |
Octacamo will help Snake blend into surroundings. View larger. | Joined by a familiar cast of characters, Snake must once again return to the battlefield to confront his lifelong rival, Liquid Ocelot, who is manipulating the world's wars from the one world where soldiers will always have a place. But Liquid Ocelot is not the only one who will be able to manipulate the world's wars--Snake can destabilize opposing forces by working behind the scenes, supporting the local militia as they fight PMCs, creating a smokescreen that allows Snake to move freely within the war-zone. MGS4 is a next-generation adventure set in the aftermath of MGS2: Sons of Liberty. The concept behind the latest Metal Gear Solid project is "no place to hide," and this edition in the series will force Snake into unexpected circumstances with an all-new storyline that breaks away in some ways from the previous MGS franchise entries. We don't want to spoil it for you, but, producer Hideo Kojima did reveal some very juicy tidbits about the game and the storyline when it was first announced at E3 of 2006. "Until now," said Kojima, "we've released two entries of the MSX2 Metal Gear series, and three entries in the Metal Gear Solid series. Add to this Portable Ops, and you get a total of six titles. All mysteries will be cleared up in Metal Gear Solid 4." Kojima was very clear about the finality of MSG4, leaving gamers to wonder, "Will Snake die?!" When asked if the story will come to this sort of an end, Kojima responded without the slightest bit of vagueness, "It will come to an end." The MGS4 E3 trailer showed a number of characters from the Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid histories. This final installment is sure to deliver loads of cameos, in fact, it is rumored that nearly all the characters from the series will make an appearance. In addition to a return of classic Metal Gear Solid characters, the gameplay systems from part three are also expected to make a comeback. The camouflage system from part three will make it into MGS4, with the addition of "OctoCamo," Snake's most advanced stealth suit to date. The name appears to be formed from the words "Octopus" and "camoflauge," and players will be awestruck by the chameleon-like camo that changes with the surroundings. OctoCamo allows Snake to blend in with his environment as it digitally manifests nearby textures in real time. Think if it this way, if Snake is standing next to a wall worn out with holes, he too will appear to be riddled with holes. It has also been revealed that MGS4 will have online play, but no specifics have been released. Although very little information is known about the game's visuals, rumor has it that MGS4 is expected to be the finest representation of console graphics on the PS3, and it is expected that they will just get better and better as the game nears its release date.

Best game for the PS3 console July 9, 2008 I've been waiting so long for this game...and it didn't disappoint me at all. I can assure you all that you won't find a game with all the graphics, sound, gameplay and the story for it is awesome....10/10!!!
Made me go replay the series July 8, 2008 MGS4 is simply what fans of the series have been waiting for. Hours and hours of gameplay, an unlimited amount of cool stuff to find out about, and there are SO many ways to play the game. If you are a fan of the Metal Gear series, you're gonna love 4, and if you're new to the series, its super easy to get started with.
I had played the original Metal Gear Solid about 6 or 7 years ago and it was amazing for its time. I had dabbled with Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 but never really was able to get into them. When I saw the ad for 4, I knew I had to have it. After playing it, I went to Wal-Mart, bought a PS2 (since my PS3 is a 40GB) and the Metal Gear Trilogy pack. I have a whole new appreciation for these games after playing 4.
If you have a PS3, it would be a SIN not to own this game! Simply perfect.
Great game, IF you love the series July 8, 2008 This is, so far, one of the best ps3 titles available (circa July 2008). It has "all things fans love and detractors hate". What do I mean? A lot of people complain about the overtly cinematic nature of the game. Yes, like all other Metal Gear Solid Games (except for Portable Ops for PSP, mainly because of the PSP's technical limitations), this is 30-40% gameplay and the rest is made from a whole bunch of dialogue and cutscenes. But Metal Gear Solid has always been that way; "and the kids just love it!" (sorry for the KMFDM pun). It sure has an overtly complicated and sometimes absurd storyline (like all oher MGS games, so this isn't really a drawback at this point).
After a whole bunch of MGS titles being written, produced and directed by Hideo Kojima one can easily know what to expect (and what not) from a new chapter in the series. If you loved all the other mgs titles, you'll feel right at home with this one (even with the stealth-in-the-battlefield tweaks, over the shoulder camera, and all that stuff they put in to appeal other gamers). If you hated all other chapters of Snake and Big Boss's history, you'll hate this one, too. It's just that simple.
Of course, if you don't know a speck about the other MGS games, you should give them a try, in the order they were released. Konami has released a nifty trilogy pack; or you can just rent the first one; if you like it, go on with the others. If not, STOP RIGHT THERE; you saw it, you disliked it, and the others are more or less the same in terms of structure and gameplay, with some minor tweaks here and there for each game (but if you hated the first one, what's the point in playing the others? Metal Gear is something you must enjoy to get the most of it).
Long-long cutscenes and radio/codec sequences, absurd and needlessly complicated stories (each one with its share of plot holes, we must admit), stealth-focused gameplay, Japanese references all over the place, blah blah blah, is what Metal Gear Solid has been all about since the very beginning (since 1998 at least, the old-school Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 games are a slightly different story). And all that stuff is here, in MGS4. So, if you are buying it, you should know what you're paying for. Nothing more, nothing less.
Great game. July 8, 2008 This game is amazing and well balanced, if you're on the fence or skipping this one it's your loss.
The best game of the saga, but... July 8, 2008 The plot in MGS 1 has always been the best and most interesting of all. The villains were perfect and Liquid made it a fantastic story. MGS 4 is grat not just for its graphics, but for its playability. I think Kojima wanted to take some elements from all past MGS games, but sometimes it feels like he just wanted to use a proved formula, instead of going farther. The game is awesome, but gotta say that the plot gets out if Kojima's hands and has some contradictions. I won't say any details so I don't spoil some surprises. I feel the worst mistake in the saga was turning Ocelot into Liquid. I mean, Liquid wa a great nemesis, a strong warrior and Kojima shuold have accepted the fact that he killed him, but bringing him back through Ocelot ws so lame. Ocelot was a really good character already, and after becomig Liquid he lost all his appeal, like being a master with revolvers. So, MGS 4 is a good conclusion for the saga, leaves you wishing there would have been more MGS titles before the end, but it's a great job any way. The online gaming is cool, but you can get tired of it before you think because it has only five maps, two of them a bit small, and another is from MGS 3. This one is a must have for any one with a PS3.
