2 out of 5 stars Not a historical game!   July 27, 2008

I have played turn based games since Avalon Hill board games (Panzer Leader, Afika Korps, etc.) The German Campaign seems ok, except for the Soviet Airpower seems too strong. The Allied Campaign is where the trouble really starts. By the time of Allied Landings (Anzio, Normandy, Torch) through the rest of 1944-45 German airpower was not really a major issue except for large scale bombing during the day. The game in no way historically demonstrates this! Also the Mustang was superior to most German fighters (2-1). Also the Allied armies by Operation Cobra had a 3-1 advantage in materials. The Game is called Panzer Tactics. One would think it was a tank battle game? Buy this game if you want to play as the Germans, otherwise forget !

4 out of 5 stars Warning Addictive!   April 24, 2008

This game is great! The scenarios are absorbing and realistic, and the historical accuracy that this game has is also nice. Some of the units can be hard to tell apart, but that problem goes away over time as you get used to the game. I have played the Advance Wars games and this game is a little more realistice (with hexagon squares, planes being able to fly over land units and your units getting hurt even if you destroy the unit you are attacking)and also takes longer to play. Since I have already beatean the scenarios on my Advance Wars games more times than I can count the longer play is nice. The main problem I have with this game is that I pick it up only intending to play for a few minutes and next thing I know it is hours later. So this is a great game but don't buy it unless you have time to kill, becuase it is extremely addictive.

4 out of 5 stars Panzer General II cloned (and that's a good thing)   January 28, 2008

Like another reviewer said, this is like a copy of the Panzer General series, specifically Panzer General II, and if you loved that game, you'll love this one. It's also tempting to compare this to Advance Wars DS, although it's not quite as easy to pick up and play it as the Advance Wars series. This is partly because the DS is not a great platform for this game. The game is a bit too detailed for such a small screen, and it can be a little difficult to make out what unit is what, especially if you are using the less-bright older DS instead of the DS Lite. That's the only real drawback and why I didn't give it a 5 star rating.

It's also wonderful to be able to play someone besides the Americans in a WWII game for a change. Sometimes people like to play Germans or Soviets instead! Hope they make a Pacific War sequel so I can play the Japanese...

4 out of 5 stars Great handheld turn-based strategy game   January 23, 2008
I like this game alot. It offers a more realistic wargaming experience than Advance Wars but without sacrificing the fun. I just finished Advance Wars 2 the day I took Panzer Tactics of the box and I am having just as much fun, different yes, but equally fun.
I like the depth of variety in units and maps as well as the challenging AI which makes for a satisfying victory. Of couse this game isn't flawless, but much of what I don't like about the game is the fact that the DS screens are not large enough to show all of the details and information a game like this could use. However, the developers have done a great job of fitting this kind of game on the DS and retaining most of what makes them so addicting.

4 out of 5 stars Great strategy game!   January 19, 2008

This game rocks! If you liked panzer general 2 you will love this game. The graphics are ok but the strategy is what makes this game so much fun. I have a hard time putting it down. Using the touch screen is a little touchy but you get use to it. You can save the game at any time and if you fail a mission you can start back up at your save point. I have been playing this for a week now and I'm still on the easy missions so this game isn't going to end anytime soon.
